Here is a picture taken from a recent home inspection in Indianapolis. This picture is showing a bathroom vent fan that is venting directly into the attic space. This is a very common defect that INSPEKT discovers daily. As you can see from the picture, moist bathroom air that is blowing directly against hot building materials in the attic can create moisture problems. This can potentially cause microbial growth and/or damage the building materials resulting in a more expensive repair down the road.
Because of this, all bathroom vents should be vented to the exterior of the home. This can be a relatively easy fix and can save you money and a headache down the road.
