Inadequate Floor Support

INSPEKT is your Shelbyville Indiana Home Inspector

This picture may not look like much to the average home owner. However, this is the floor joist system in an older home that only had a half inch bearing on a toe nailed ledger support. Meaning the floor system of this room that is carrying the weight of your furniture and appliances is now being supporting by a half inch of material.
At some point this was realized by the home owner and some makeshift supports were installed under the joist system (as you can see below the joist) but this does not necessarily mean it was repaired properly. In this situation we recommended further evaluation by a licensed contractor.
This is just another reason to hire INSPEKT as your home inspector before purchasing a home. We see these kinds of concerns on a daily basis and are able to identify them and make the proper recommendations.
